Bran Nue Day

Bran Nue Dae is shameless good fun: an Australian musical that will have you wishing you were an Aboriginie. Willie is a young man living with his stern Christian mother and in love with the silken-voiced Rosie. He leaves his small hometown of Broome for Catholic school in the city of Perth, but soon runs away, pursued by the zealous school priest (a hilarious Geoffrey Rush). On his trek back home, Willie is joined by a number of quirky characters, including a homeless Aboriginal man and a New Age/hippie couple. Of course everything ends up happily ever after, with just about everyone related to everyone else, but this riotous road movie is so genuinely good-hearted that the triviality of the plot doesn't matter. Just sit back and enjoy. (7.5/10)
