Michael Moore is up to his usual tricks: this time debunking the notion that capitalism=democracy, and exposing the very undemocratic means by which capitalists have treated workers shabbily, have infiltrated the gov’t (like the mafia secreting an agent in the police force, Goldman Sachs has put many of their executives in senior positions in the U.S. gov’t), and have (very un-capitalistically) taken bailouts—-which goes against the core idea that capitalism=survival of the fittest. And while there are obvious strengths and benefits to the free enterprise system, which might be said to have built American into a superpower, the growing disparity of wealth and power echoes the decline of the Roman Empire—-images of which Moore begins his movie—-and are certainly against any Christian beliefs of looking after the poor. Power to the people is Moore’s message. But will the people listen, and will they be able to restore a sense of fairness to American life? Official website. (7/10)
